Extending Care and Hope: Good Neighbors Philippines Provides Food Support to Families Affected by Typhoon Neneng and Habagat

When disaster strikes, having food on the table becomes an immediate concern for families already facing uncertainty.

Following the impact of Typhoon Neneng and the succeeding Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), Barangay San Isidro in Rodriguez, Rizal experienced flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in upland communities. The Municipality of Rodriguez was placed under a state of calamity on August 10, 2026, as communities dealt with the severe effects of the weather disturbance.

Several families were forced to evacuate to nearby evacuation centers, while damaged and impassable roads made it difficult for assistance to reach some communities. Although the municipal and barangay governments provided food support, the extent of the damage and the number of affected households meant that additional assistance was needed.

Recognizing the immediate needs of its sponsored families, Good Neighbors Philippines conducted a food support distribution on September 13, 2026, at the San Isidro-Southville Community Development Project (SISV CDP).

A total of 128 sponsored families from San Isidro received food support containing nutritious food items to help address their households' immediate food needs during the recovery period.

For the families, the assistance meant more than having additional food at home. It was also a reminder that they were not facing the aftermath of the disaster alone.

Parents and guardians expressed their appreciation upon receiving the food support, sharing how the assistance would help their families manage their daily food needs as they continued to recover.

The activity was made possible through the funding support of Good Neighbors USA, with the SISV CDP Team playing an important role in its implementation. The team ensured that the validated sponsored families received their food support and that the distribution was carried out efficiently.
