The Impact of Typhoon Pepito: Rising Together as One Community

November 19, 2024 – Super Typhoon Pepito made landfall in the Philippines with catastrophic force, leaving communities in its path devastated. On November 16, it struck Panganiban, Catanduanes, under Signal No. 5—the highest warning level—causing massive destruction. The following day, it made its second landfall in Aurora province, bringing life-threatening conditions to parts of Southern Luzon.

Typhoon Kristine Hits the Philippines Hard: Impact on our Community Development Project Areas in Prieto Diaz and Gigmoto

October 23, 2024 – Typhoon Kristine (also known as Tropical Depression Trami) entered the Philippines on October 21 and continues to cause heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding in many areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. On October 22, it became a stronger storm, with several areas now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) Nos. 1 and 2.

By 5:00 AM today, Typhoon Kristine remains a Tropical Storm. Some of the hardest-hit areas are in Region V, including Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon and Gigmoto, Catanduanes.

On July 24, 2024 Typhoon Carina, intensified by the Southeast Monsoon, left a significant impact on numerous communities in the Philippines. It brought heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding affecting 1,317,111 families across all regions.

Many communities faced power and water shortages. Although transport disruptions were minimal, classes were canceled in 503 areas and work was halted in 476 areas, impacting thousands of people.

Amalia Torcuator, a Community Volunteer and a Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Gigmoto CDP, is now fully vaccinated by COVID-19 Vaccine. At first, she also had a fear of getting vaccinated because of the previous issues on anti-dengue, which has claimed children’s lives.

Through her participation in the vaccine orientation, she was convinced to be vaccinated. It was explained to them clearly and thoroughly the positive effects of the COVID-19 vaccines on themselves and others.
